Activists Plan Protest Of Barack Obama's Miami Beach Fundraiser

Groups To Protest Obama In Miami Beach

An LGBT organization and student activist group are planning to protest President Barack Obama’s Miami Beach fundraiser dinner Tuesday evening.

GetEqual’s South Florida chapter and Students Working For Equal Rights are pushing Obama to sign the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, an executive order that would ban workplace discrimination against LGBT employees.

“As Floridians we want to remind President Obama that before he comes to ask for funding from our community, we need him to protect everyone of us,” GetEqual's national field director Felipe Sousa-Rodriguez told HuffPost.

The $40,000-a-ticket reception, hosted by Miami Beach residents F.J. and Abigail Pollack, will be followed by an 8:30 performance by salsa star Marc Anthony at the Fillmore Miami Beach.

Protesters plan to gather outside of the theatre to ask Obama to add to his ongoing general support of the LGBT community.

“Although we are thankful for his support for marriage equality and the recent administrative relief for DREAM Act youth, however, President Obama can do more in order to make life better for Americans," said Sousa-Rodriguez. "We will continue to press him for more.”
