From "Silkwood" (1983) to "When Harry Met Sally" (1989) to "Julie & Julia" (2009), Nora Ephron's movies have long been a part of our collective consciousness.

Ephron, who was born in New York City and began her career as a journalist and magazine writer, was one of the most influential female filmmakers in the history of cinema. She died on the evening of Tuesday, June 26, at the age of 71 due to complications from the blood disorder myelodysplasia.
