'America's Got Talent': Controversial Singing Soldier Timothy Poe Sent Home From Las Vegas (VIDEO)

'AGT': The Fate Of Singing Soldier Tim Poe

Country singer Timothy Poe made national headlines when he claimed he had been injured while serving in the military in Afghanistan during his first "America's Got Talent" (Tue., 9 p.m. ET on NBC) audition. News outlets immediately picked up on the story when it was reported that there were no military records corroborating his claims.

While the records do indicate Poe served in Afghanistan for about a month that year, there's no record of injury, nor did he receive a purple heart. "AGT" responded by saying they don't deal with background checks until contestants reach the Top 48.

That wasn't going to be an issue, as Poe didn't make it out of Las Vegas. It was his voice that did him in during this round, as opposed to any questions about the veracity of his story. The episode was filmed before the controversy erupted.

But while Poe and several early memorable contestants were eliminated, there were still plenty of favorites moving forward to the next round.

"America's Got Talent" continues with a two-hour episode Wednesday night at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this post incorrectly stated that "America's Got Talent" resumes next Tuesday. It has been updated to reflect Wednesday night's two-hour special.
