Black Lips Middle East Tour: Band Will Play In Iraq, Egypt And More

Black Lips Headed To Iraq

The Black Lips are headed to the Middle East as part of their world tour.

The band, which a press release described as "flower punk progenitors," has already notched appearances at Bonnaroo and Coachella and toured extensively in Australia, Thailand, Portugal and India. As part of their September schedule, they will play shows in Jordan, Cyprus, Egypt, Tunisia, Dubai, Iraq and Lebanon. There are two shows planned for Iraq, one in Hawler and one in Sulamaniah.

“We want to play everywhere on the planet, and the opportunity came up. We couldn't say no,” bassist and vocalist Jared Swilley said. “Anywhere that we haven't been excites us. Not many western bands have toured the region and to be one of the first is amazing. Adventures are the best.”

The band is touring in support of their 2011, Mark Ronson-produced album Arabia Mountain (a mountain outside Atlanta). Is the band planning to change anything for the Middle East tour? "We will be on our best behavior," Swilley told HuffPost Entertainment.
