Emails, loud neighbors, stress -- there's enough to wrestle with as it is when it comes to getting enough good-quality shuteye. But add in a sleep partner who snores or hogs the covers or loves to snooze with the TV on, and a little tossing and turning can become full-on sleep deprivation.
That's at least part of the reason why a number of couples have opted for a solution that might sound old-fashioned or threatening to a happy relationship: sleeping separately. Whether it's in different bedrooms entirely, or just a separate bed nearby, nearly one in four American couples sleep apart, The New York Times reported.
Sure, it's not for everyone. But the couples that love it, really love it, claiming improvements in not only their sleep but their sex lives, too.
Now that a number of happily-coupled celebrity duos have spoken about their separate sleep habits, maybe the practice will pick up a little steam. Here's a look at some of the stars who swear by separate beds and bedrooms.
Tim Burton And Helena Bonham Carter
The director and actress famously have two entire houses between them -- and they retire to their own to hit the hay, reportedly because he snores, according to The Telegraph. Burton also allegedly likes to pace and watch TV when he can't sleep, according go The Daily Mail.
Queen Elizabeth II And Prince Phillip
The queen and her husband -- as is fitting, historically -- sleep in different bedrooms, according to The Daily Mail.
Ryan O'Neal And Farrah Fawcett
In an excerpt from his recent memoir, "Both Of Us: My Life With Farrah", O'Neal revealed that the couple slept separately, writing:
"Yes, we were sleeping in separate bedrooms by then, but not for the reasons you're thinking. When Redmond was a toddler he'd come into our bedroom at night wanting to sleep between us. Redmond has strong legs like his mother, and he would burrow into the bed, decide he didn't have enough room, and then start pushing with all his might, until I had no other choice but to sleep on the floor or in the other room. Eventually he outgrew this, but by then, Farrah and I had grown used to our privacy and it stuck, and even when we traveled after that, we'd often get adjoining rooms. I always thought of our arrangement as terribly mature of us. Now I wish I could have back every one of those nights we slept in separate beds."

Katie Holmes And Tom Cruise
Sending her husband off to a sound-proof "snoratorium" doesn't seem to faze Holmes. The couple allegedly joke with friends about sleeping in separate bedrooms, The Daily Mail reported. UPDATE: After this story was published, it was announced that Holmes and Cruise plan to divorce after five years of marriage.
Scott Disick And Kourtney Kardashian
In an episode of "Kourtney & Kim Take New York" it was revealed that the couple sleeps in separate beds, E! Online reported. Disick later explained on Twitter, writing, "Just want to clear up the reason why we don't sleep in bed together. I'm not a good sleeper and with [son] Mason in bed I can't fall to sleep!"
Kevin Jonas And Danielle Deleasa
The young couple reportedly sleep in separate bedrooms because Jonas snores, a friend told In Touch Weekly.
