South Side Boy Drowns In Pool While Visiting Grandmother

Police say a 9-year-old Chicago boy apparently drowned in a neighbor's swimming pool while visiting his grandmother in south suburban Lansing, Ill.

Christian Reese and two relatives, 10 and 11, hopped the fence surrounding a neighbor's property and went swimming in the pool, the Northwest Indiana Times reports. Around 6:30 p.m., the homeowner heard pounding on the door and screams from Reese's relatives, who said he was underwater, and paramedics were called to the scene.

Police say Reese was under water for several minutes and was not breathing when paramedics arrived at the scene, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Paramedics administered CPR, but the boy was pronounced dead at Munster Community Hospital at 7:16 p.m.

This is a very tragic incident,” Lansing police Detective Sgt. Scott Bailey said in a news release, according to CBS Chicago. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.”

An autopsy has been performed, but the cause of death is still pending, the Chicago Tribune reports. Lansing police are investigating.
