Monkey Orchids: Dracula Simia And Dracula Anthracina Flowers Look Like Baboons (PHOTOS)

Orchid see, orchid do.

That's right. Despite their uncanny resemblance to some baboons, these are actually two distinct types of orchids: Dracula simia and Dracula anthracina.

SCROLL DOWN FOR PHOTOS

According to the University of British Columbia's Botanical Garden and Centre For Plant Research, Dracula simia translates to "little dragon monkey." It was named in 1978 and grows between 3,280 and 6,560 feet above sea level in forests in southeast Ecuador. Its name comes in part from its cape and fang-like resemblance, evocative of the Count Dracula character from the Bram Stoker classic.

Eeerkia Schulz, a 57-year-old amateur photographer, snapped these photos at the Gardens of Herrenhausen flower show in Hanover, Germany.

"When I found these flowers I couldn't believe how much they looked like monkeys," Schulz said, according to Caters News Agency. "I can't believe how lovely they are and everyone that I show pictures of them to are instantly surprised just like me."

Who says evolution and God can't exist together. Why should one shun the other? Who are we to say or even know.

Well, I hardly think it likely that ANY orchid would engage in simian pseudocopulation, and with a baboon, no less! On behalf of my orchidaceous friends, I am profoundly offended! My poor monogamous monocots! They certainly do NOT engage in pollination with just any old species! Harumph!

A fine example of the wonders of evolution...

Get a life man, its all GOD.. the GOD who created you... HE can be found as well if you gave it a few weeks... but you won't because you love sin therefore you love arrogance.

1. I'm a woman.
2. I grew up in a Catholic home, have friends and acquaintances who are of everything from Muslim, to non-denominational Christian, to Buddhist, to Wiccan, to Ba'hai (sp); and I have educated myself on various other religions, and continue to take the time to learn about new ones/ones I don't know much about.
3.  I'm sure a lot of the things I love are things that you consider sin, so you are right on that one.
4.  To me it makes more sense there there is no god/creator/intelligent designer/etc.  To you, it makes more sense that there is. Leave it at that, don't tell me I'm wrong.

Just because someone does not follow your God does not make them a sinner nor does it make them ignorant

Using the principles outlined in The Doctrine of Signatures, I'd say these plants are an excellent monkey repellent.

First glance and I thought, "if those are baboons, we're looking at the back end, not the front." LOL. Didn't see the faces until the close up. They still look more like the back end than the front to me.

Love orchids though. :)

Father God is far greater than mother nature, also HE is real and He can be found for real. All you got to do is read the Gospels asking for the Holy Spirit and Living Water and stick to it. Simple as that. Peace.

Good thing they don't look like Jesus, we would have the religious freaks really freaking out.

Which is weird since no one actually knows what Jesus looked like or his mother Mary.

Nature is always fascinating when viewed thru a macro lens. It's amazing the things we don't see just looking with our eyes.
