How To Make A Vodka Watermelon

How To Make A Drunken Watermelon

There are a lot of things you can do with a watermelon. You can slice it and eat it (good, but a little boring). You can grease it with Crisco, throw it in a pool, and watch as people try to get their grip on it (extremely entertaining, but a waste of a good melon). Or, you could get it drunk (yes!).

A drunken watermelon is what happens when you add the contents of a bottle of vodka to a whole watermelon. The flesh of the melon absorbs the liquor which means that when you eat a slice, it's like drinking a cocktail. And what could be better than eating watermelon while simultaneously having a drink?

Making a drunken watermelon is easy enough to do. If you search youtube, you can find a handful of videos demonstrating how -- some are instructional and some just amusing. The idea is simple though. You need a 4-pound watermelon and a bottle of vodka. You could put it together last minute and ruggedly, as these guys do:

Though there is an easier way to make one -- it just requires a little bit of planning. Cut a hole into the watermelon the same size as the vodka bottle cap. Place the spout of the bottle into that hole and allow it to empty into the melon; this can take up to a half hour. Let it refrigerate for at least an hour up to overnight, then slice it up and enjoy.

These guys can show you how to do it right (though we could do without some of the bizarre imagery -- and that song!):
