Walmart Suspends Supplier Of Seafood

The New York Times:

Wal-Mart Stores has suspended one of its seafood suppliers in the South as an advocacy group for foreign workers pressed the retailer to improve working conditions there and at a dozen other suppliers cited for hundreds of federal labor violations.

Walmart is trying to improve their IMAGE!!!

They pay the lowest wages and abuse their people worse than any know company in the Nation , push their low paid workers onto PUBLIC tax paid medical care so they don't have to provide it themselves AND force people to work off the clock or lose their jobs so they CAN'T qualify for benefits!!!

This place they condemn now sounds a lot like every store they have.

Cue the MASSIVE group of walmart defenders tr000/////z now.

How dare Walmart blame the union. If the suppliers had one this would not be an issue. Employee torture is torture no matter WHO complains about it. Shame on Walmart for defending law breakers in anyway. A warning to ALL Americans. This scapegoating of unions will result in all of us working under these terrible conditions.

Ah, yes, the old bogey man, the union. When all else fails, attack the bogey man.

I'm shocked. A low value added, competitive, dirty job that is being done by illegal immigrants?! What's next? Pallet repair, tree trimming while hanging from limbs, stoop labor in the fields, roofing, meat and chicken processing, etc. etc.

Make eVerify mandatory. Smoke all the illegality out into the open. Let the market work to set wages to attract and retain legal workers.

Crayfish processors shouldn't get any more of a pass than farmers.

The fact is some employers are scum and that's why laws and adequate inspections are necessary. Republicans feel this is an intrusion and have underfunded the governments efforts to monitor these kinds of facilities. You can thank politicians who accept contributions to have the government look the other way for this to happen. This is not new, Sinclair Lewis wrote about this back in the Twenties.

found terrible conditions at C. J.’s Seafood, a crawfish company in Breaux Bridge, La. Several immigrant workers said they had been forced to work 16 to 24 hours consecutively and had even been locked into the plant. Guest workers said they sometimes labored more than 80 hours a week, had been threatened with beatings to press them to work faster and had been warned that their families in Mexico would be hurt if they complained to government agencies.

Same conditions are in other states. Check the farmers in North Carolina who house these people in barns, no heat, no A/C and never get away from their misery. And the local sheriff,
well he elected by those very people having these conditions.
