'Weeds' Premiere: Tim Scottson Shot Nancy At Start Of Season 8

'Weeds' Premiere: Who Shot Nancy?

"Weeds" picked up its eighth and final season right where last season’s cliffhanger finale left off, in the moments after a shot rang out from the bushes during a family dinner at the Botwin's new compound in Connecticut. Warning: Spoilers for "Weeds" Season 8, Episode 1, entitled "Messy," below.

Nancy survived getting shot in the head, but could still be facing brain damage after falling into a coma at the hospital. The identity of the shooter turned out to be a blast from the "Weeds" past: Tim Scottson, the son of DEA agent Peter Scottson, who Nancy briefly married all the way back in Season 2.

If you’re asking, "Wait, who?!" then you’re not alone. Little Tim Scottson was a bit player in the Botwin’s story, and it seemed more likely that the shooter would’ve been any number of gangsters and drug dealers who Nancy's wronged along the way. But "Weeds" creator Jenji Kohan clearly has a less-obvious end-game up her sleeve.

So why did Tim Scottson do it? He probably blames Nancy for his father’s death at the hands of the Armenian mobsters, who murdered him while he was trying to extort Nancy's weed profits after their relationship went bad. Either that, or he's still holding a grudge against Shane for biting him on the foot at a karate match.

"Weeds" airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on Showtime.
