CBGB Festival Guide: Superchunk, Reggie Watts And Guided By Voices

From July 5 to July 8, the city will resurrect the greatness of CBGB with the venerable club's first music festival, bringing both established and emerging rock bands to over 30 venues throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Bands including Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, So So Glos, the Dirty Pearls, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, and Guided By Voices are scheduled to play the festival. DJ Jonathan Toubin, who suffered major injuries from a devastating car accident in December, will also perform.

The festival will include a slew of music conferences and over two dozen screenings of rock films and documentaries hosted at various theaters around the city. The event's keynote speaker will be Krist Novoselic, the former bassist and founding member of Nirvana.

CBGB's music festival marks the reemergence of one of New York's most legendary music venues back into cultural importance, as the club's new investors are also planning to open a new downtown venue for a new generation to enjoy.

Perhaps even more exciting, Alan Rickman is set to play CBGB founder Hilly Kristal in a biopic.

Passes for the festival range from $69 to $379. For more information on purchasing passes, click here.
