Charles Barkley On Dirk Nowitzki, Auburn Recruiting And Paying Cam Newton (VIDEO)

WATCH: Barkley Recalls Attempt To Bribe Dirk

Years ago, NBA superstar Charles Barkley tried to make it clear to everyone that he was not a role model, famously saying "Just because I dunk a basketball doesn't mean I should raise your kids" in an iconic Nike commercial. After watching video of this hilarious locker room ramble from Barkley at charity softball game hosted by Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowtizki over the weekend, the NCAA might want to remind basketball coaches, boosters and former players that Barkley is not to be considered a role model when it comes to recruiting kids either.

Holding court in the clubhouse with Dirk seated behind him, Barkley spun a yarn about the first time he played against the German star at an exhibition in Germany and the attempt he made to bribe the then-teenager.

"So I called Nike. I says, 'Find out about this kid. Tell him I'll give him anything he wants to go to Auburn.'"

Barkley insisted that "he would have did good at Auburn, and we would have took good care of him, too."

Joking about the treatment afforded to SEC athletes, Barkley seems quite pleased with the notion that his school would have paid Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Cam Newton.

"Everybody wants to give us a hard time about giving Cam Newton $200,000. That's called a good damn investment!"

Despite Barkley's campaign to bring Nowitzki to Auburn, a Sports Illustrated article shortly before the 1998 NBA Draft names Cal and Kentucky as top choices for the German prodigy, should he decide to eschew the NBA for the NCAA. One can only wonder what they had to offer.
