Even with Independence Day falling in the middle of the week this year, the Chicago area will still be busily blowing things up to the tune of "The 1812 Overture" and other patriotic classics.

And though the main hurrah is at Navy Pier downtown, the party will be hopping far beyond the city's borders.

Below, we've rounded up some of the finest fireworks offerings in the area that are worth checking out this Fourth. For a more complete list, visit NBC Chicago. Let us know in the comments if we missed your favorite area fireworks show.

If you're looking for something to occupy your time in the meantime, also check out our guide to a patriotic, mid-week staycation.
