Lawrence O'Donnell on Tuesday mocked Bill O'Reilly's apology about getting the Supreme Court's verdict on President Obama's health care wrong.
O'Reilly had pledged to "apologize for being an idiot" if the Court upheld the individual mandate. The court did, and on Monday, O'Reilly made a half-hearted apology (though he staunchly maintained that he was "not really sorry.")
O'Donnell first dinged O'Reilly (a favorite target of his) for saying that he had not imagined "in a million years" that Roberts would uphold the law on the basis that it was a tax. He said he'd been making this argument for years.
"If what Bill O'Reilly just said is true ... Bill is just as horribly uninformed about current events as his Fox News audience is," he said.
He then went after O'Reilly for not being authentic enough in his apology.
"Imagine how demoralizing it was for the Fox News team to watch their fearless leader be afraid to do the right thing, to do what he said he was going to do," O'Donnell said. "Now they know their fearless leader is a fraud, if they weren't smart enough to catch that before. How could they ever ever look O'Reilly in the eye again?"
