'The Real L Word' Cast Member Somer On 'The Top Five Misconceptions About Lesbians'

Top Five Misconceptions About Lesbians, As Told By 'Real L Word' Cast Member

The season three premiere of " The Real L Word" might still be a week away, but Showtime is offering The Huffington Post a sneak peek with this exclusive video post from New York-based cast member Somer.

In the new clip, Somer debates -- and debunks -- what she describes as the "top five misconceptions about lesbians," including the so-called "gender roles" that exist in same-sex relationships and the common stereotype that all lesbians are "angry, militant feminists."

On gender roles in lesbian relationships: "I have to say I do all the bug-killing in the house, and yet I also do the dishes. And the roles aren't clearly defined."

On lesbians hating men: "We have brothers and uncles and dads...some of us have children that are men. They're fun to hang out with, but not for sex...not for me."

On whether lesbians are gay only because they've never been with a man: "You don't apply the same logic to apply to straight people...I don't like certain kinds of ice cream; I'm not crazy about pistachio, but you know what? I don't need to eat it every day to know that i don't like pistachio, and I don't need to date guys to know that I'm not interested in guys."

"The Real L Word" premieres on Thursday, July 12 at 10pm ET/PT on Showtime.
