William Beavers Corruption: Commissioner Calls Patrick Fitzgerald 'Rooster With No Nuts'

Indicted old-school Chicago lawmaker William Beavers lashed out Thursday in a press conference against the recently-retired prosecutor who charged him with federal tax evasion.

The Cook County Commissioner said Thursday morning that federal prosecutors are "lying, lying, lying" as they allege that he failed to report tens of thousands of dollars of income he withdrew from his campaign accounts, as well as his county discretionary spending account.

Beavers has maintained his innocence since he was arrested in February. He claims that he did not need to pay taxes on the borrowed campaign money because it was repaid, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

"This is much ado about nothing," Beavers' attorney Victor Henderson said Thursday, according to the Sun-Times.

Beavers, who has sometimes referred to himself as "The Hog With The Big Nuts," summarized his stance toward the charges a bit more bluntly and slammed former U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald. He maintains that federal prosectors only came after him after he refused to "wear a wire" on fellow Cook County Commissioner John Daley.

"For three years Fitzgerald has been hounding me," Beavers said, according to ABC Chicago. "I'm gonna try to hound him for the next six months, okay? He's a rooster without nuts. That's a capon, okay?"

The indicted commissioner previously said he did not "give a f**k" about Fitzgerald and accused him of using "Gestapo-type tactics" in his investigations.

Beavers will face trial on Dec. 3. If found he guilty of the four charges he faces, he could be sentenced to up to 12 years in prison.
