Chicago-Area Cats, Dogs & Other Pets Up For Adoption (7/6) (PHOTOS)

PHOTOS: Local Shelter Pets In Need Of Homes

While the Fourth of July is often associated with fireworks and backyard cookouts it is also, unfortunately, known for being a difficult time for household pets.

It is said that, because many animals are spooked by fireworks shows, the day after Independence Day is the busiest day of the year for animal shelters, many of which were already packed with pets still awaiting a new home.

This week, we're featuring another group of area cats, dogs and other pets that are available for adoption at Chicago-area shelters. To our knowledge, they've all been spayed or neutered and are up to date with their vaccinations.

If this slideshow doesn't satisfy your cute animal fix, be sure to check out past features linked below the gallery either by scrolling down or clicking here. Many of the previously featured animals remain homeless.
