Higgs Discovery Twitter Firestorm: 'God Particle' Nickname Taken Too Literally By Some

Higgs' 'God Particle' Nickname Fuels Twitter Firestorm

Physics fans went wild over this week's announcement that scientists at CERN had discovered a particle consistent with the long-sought Higgs boson. But without an advanced degree in physics it can be hard to understand exactly what the physicists found--and what some scientists and science journalists mean when they call the Higgs the "god particle."

Some people wised up by watching one of the many explainer videos going around. Others took to Twitter, raging against the Higgs and taking its "god particle" nickname a bit too literally.
