House Tour: Inside The Colorful Dallas Home Of 'Hi Sugarplum!' Blogger Cassie Freeman (PHOTOS)

Could you ever imagine making posh designer-inspired bookends by spray painting plastic elephants from the dollar bin at Target? This is just one of the innovative DIYs dreamed up by Cassie Freeman at "hi sugarplum!" We are so impressed by her savvy decorating skills and her beautiful and very colorful home, we couldn't wait to share these amazing photos.

This Dallas-area mother of two is not a designer by trade. But years of observing creative friends honed Freeman's eye for design, and inspired her to start blogging about the process of decorating her home two years ago. Her blog's adorable name comes from the nickname her late grandfather gave her.

What do we love most about this blogger's style? She works with what she's got! Many of the pieces in her home were inherited from family and have sentimental value, but instead of preserving them as is, Freeman has made them her own. Most of her updates involve easy inexpensive changes like a fresh coat of paint or new hardware. The bookshelves in her living room were bland unfinished wood, but with the addition of some white shiny paint, decorative crown molding and a patterned fabric spray-mounted to the back, they have become a dramatic focal point.

Freeman admits she can be fickle, so she tends to look for low-cost elements to bring high-style to her rooms, so she won't feel guilty if she swaps them out frequently. And aside from being very crafty, she's a bargain-hunter and many of her finds, like her daughter's bed, were found on Craigslist, Overstock, or designer flash sales.
