Mark Trumbo Home Run: Angels' Star Hits Roof During Home Run Derby (VIDEO)

WATCH: 'Trumbomb' Goes Deep At Derby

Mark Trumbo may have been the only first timer representing the American League at the Home Run Derby but he quickly made it clear that he belonged.

During the first round, Trumbo took center stage as the lead-off hitter for the American League. After a slow start, the 26-year-old showed the Kansas City crowd just why he was chosen over hometown hero Billy Butler. For a fleeting moment, they may have actually agreed with the choice.

With one out left, Trumbo launched a 428-foot bomb that soared deep into left field before settling on the roof of the Royals Hall of Fame building. The shot was projected to reach a total of 475 feet.

Although Trumbo would not get far in the competition, he authored its first jaw-dropping moments. If this kid plays his cards right he may just have a future in this game..
