The Richest Public Universities (SLIDESHOW)

The University of Texas is rich.

The economy may not be booming, but the UT school system's Permanent University Fund continues to grow, making it the richest public university system endowment in the country.

According to a report from the National Association of College and University Business Officers and Commonfund Institute, UT has $17,148,649,000. That's far more than the average endowment of $497,562,000 (out of 839 public and private universities ranked) and way higher than the median endowment of $93,440,000. UT is the third richest college system in the country, not far behind Yale University and ahead of Princeton and Stanford universities.

It's no wonder UT has only had incremental tuition increases in recent years.
