Baby Giraffe Titan Makes His Debut At Zoo Miami (PHOTOS)

Zoo Miami suffered a sad loss when 32-year-old African elephant Machito, one of their first animal residents when they opened in 1981, passed away due to unknown illness earlier this month.

But staff and patrons are celebrating the latest addition to the animal park -- a two-week-old giraffe named Titan who made his debut on Wednesday.

Titan was born June 28 and was kept of the public eye so that he could bond with his mother Kita.

Zoo officials say he was almost 6 feet tall at birth and weighed around 130 pounds.

Wednesday morning, despite the rain, Titan had his first chance to stretch his very long legs in his first sprint around the giraffe exhibit. See photos of his jaunty, clumsy run in the below slideshow, courtesy of Ron Magill.

Titan is the 46th giraffe to be born at Zoo Miami and staff say the existing herd has made the new kid on the block feel right at home.
