Eddie Murphy Twitter Death Hoax Continues

Eddie Murphy Caught In Another Twitter Death Hoax

Eddie Murphy died? No! Just another case of your average Twitter celebrity death hoax.

Murphy was targeted for the fifth time in yet another death hoax. This time, MediaFetcher had the "Tower Heist" actor dying in a snowboarding accident in Zermatt, Switzerland, early Thursday morning. The post claimed that Murphy had lost control of his snowboard equipment and struck a tree at high speed, dying instantly on impact.

The phony news began spreading like wildfire on Twitter with people questioning the legitimacy of the report. But E! News later confirmed that Murphy is alive "though probably a little agitated with social media."

The actor has been the target of death hoaxes four previous times, all of which involved snowboarding incidents. The first time the rumor spread was in May 2011, when MediaFetcher said he died in Zermatt in a snowboarding accident almost identical to the one described Thursday.

Murphy is not only alive, but he is well.

The actor was photographed at the BET Awards on July 1 with his new girlfriend, "106 & Park" star Rocsi Diaz.

The 51-year-old actor is certainly not the only celebrity whose death has been rumored on Twitter.

Kanye West was rumored to have died in 2009 in a serious accident. Adam Sandler was falsely killed off in a snowboarding accident (guess where!) in Switzerland in June. Gotye was rumored to have committed suicide with a 9 mm pistol earlier this month. The story was reported on CNN's iReport, but the singer quickly squashed the macabre rumors.
