ESPY Red Carpet Photos: Maria Sharapova, Olivia Munn, Brian Wilson Impress Before Awards Show

These are the boring answers that a reporter might normally receive if he or she were to ask a professional athlete, "Who are you wearing?"

This is why we don't think too much about a player's attire, with the recent exception of postgame press conferences during the 2012 NBA Playoffs. But on the red carpet before the 2012 ESPY Awards in Los Angeles, this was suddenly a very appropriate questions as the stars of the sports world traded in eye black for black ties and rubbed elbows with Hollywood.

With male athletes like Matt Kemp and Drew Brees sporting classic, classy looks and female sports stars like Maria Sharapova and Danica Patrick turning heads in evening gowns, these all stars showed they can go glamour shot for glamour shot with those in the world of entertainment. Prominent among the actors, musicians and non-sporting celebrities sharing the red carpet were Olivia Munn, Joel McHale, Nas and Zooey Deschanel.

Team USA at the Olympics Opening Ceremonies are being given Ralph Lauren suits made in China.....They should refuse to wear them.

The team members should march in wearing T-shirts displaying the following:

The hockey players looked so out of place. I mean...some of the people there looked like they were there for church, some people looked like they were there for a night of drinks and ballroom dancing, others still for a show...but the hockey players looked like they had no idea there wouldn't be ice. Confused, disoriented. Like someone handed them dry cleaned suits and they said, "I can't skate in this!" and the handlers just told them put it on anyway, and get in the car.

I think the dress is as stunning as she is. I've seen Maria in person and she is every bit as lovely as her photos indicate. She is also an unfailingly nice and gracious person. And her hard-hitting, attacking game makes her great fun to watch. Rotator-cuff surgery is usually a career-ender for female tennis pros, but Maria fought her way back and proved she is a true champion. I was delighted to see her achieve a career Grand Slam at the French Open. Maria is the highest-paid woman athlete in the world, and she's earned every penny of it.

I'm a huge fan of Anna. She truly is gorgeous. And personally, I'm more attracted to Anna because she's a brunette and exotic. She's also a great player. But I already posted a comment celebrating Maria's beauty and talents. I think you cannot go wrong with either one. Except if you're a regular Joe like me whose 5' 8" tall. Without heels these two 6' godesses would tower over me. Not that I personally would care, but you know how freaked out women get when a guy is shorter than they are, especially when they're waering their 5" heels!
