Teen Shot For The Second Time Over One-Month Period

A Chicago-area teen was shot in the leg Tuesday evening -- the second time she has been shot over a period of less than a month on the same street.

Malikha Mills, 17, of Joliet, Ill., was standing next to a car with a group of people around 10 p.m. Tuesday when shots rang out, the Joliet Herald-Times reports.

According to police, Mills was shot through her right leg as she ran for cover, the Associated Press reports. A 2-year-old girl who was being held by her mother was also injured in the incident.

Three weeks earlier, Mills was wounded in a shooting just before midnight on June 17 in the 1400 block of Englewood in Joliet, one block away from the Tuesday shooting, according to CBS Chicago. Three other people -- aged 20 to 27 -- were also injured in the June 17 shooting.

No suspect is in custody in either shootings as of Thursday afternoon.
