Comic-Con 2012: Zombie Survival Machine Unveiled By 'The Walking Dead' Creator (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

This Zombie Survival Machine Could Get You Through An Apocalypse

Zombies might have overtaken Comic-Con 2012 on Thursday, but even the most annihilative zombie apocalypse is no match for the Zombie Survival Machine, unveiled by creator of "The Walking Dead," Robert Kirkman.

Kirkman was on hand at San Diego's Petco Park earlier this week to unveil the Zombie Survival Machine and celebrate the 100th issue of "The Walking Dead" comic.

The creator of the hit AMC series, with the help of car fabricator Gary Castillo of DesignCraft Fabrication, turned a standard Hyundai Elantra Coupe into a death-defying, apocalypse-surviving, butt-kicking vehicle, complete with window armor, caged windows, spikes, a cow-catch and off-road tires, Jalopnik notes.

And according to a video posted by Hyundai USA, the "fortress on wheels" packs quite a punch.

Kirkman said the cow-catch could take out "like a million" zombies at one time. Inside, passengers will find a sword, a baseball bat and a first-aid kit if they need any extra help.

"Our custom Elantra Coupe Zombie Survival Machine is the ultimate car for 'The Walking Dead' fans and anyone who wants to survive a zombie invasion," said Steve Shannon, vice president of Marketing for Hyundai Motor America, in a press release from the company.

Another "Walking Dead" attraction at Comic Con 2012 is "The Walking Dead" Escape: San Diego obstacle course.

The event, which opens Friday night, will allow participants to experience a zombie apocalypse as "a survivor, walker or spectator,"according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"What we've really done is build big builds, and the first one you get to is really challenging -- it's cargo nets, and you climb up a 10-foot ladder, go up another 10-foot cargo net, come back down and then go back down a slide," Liam Brenner, producer of "The Walking Dead" Escape: San Diego course, told The Hollywood Reporter.

"Our goal was to create the apocalypse in an urban setting, and that's where all the zombies are going to be when the world ends," he added.
