The xx, 'Angels': New Song From Upcoming Album 'Coexist,' Released, Plus Fall Tour Dates (AUDIO)

The xx Share New Song, Announce Fall Tour

Britain's The xx are a preternaturally talented pop band, noted for delivering emotional melodies over minimalist soundscapes.

With "Angels," a new song from their upcoming sophomore album, "Coexist," which will be released in September on Young Turks Records, the band proves once again that less can be more -- so, so much more.

A twinkling guitar lead threads sparsely around a rich, yearning vocal, a scattered pulse of drums beneath. The effect is airy and moving while remaining somewhat chilly and detached.

Like a love idealized but not acted on, 'Angels' seems to hinge on the possibilities of an endless slew of "what ifs." The listener, the daydreamer in such a scenario, is left hanging on its soft hook, eager for more.
