Detroit City Council Stalls On Imposed Contracts

City Council Doesn't Make A Decision (Again)

Outraged union leaders on Monday pressed the City Council for more time to negotiate new contract terms instead of accepting tough across-the-board cuts proposed by the Bing administration.

Council members took no action to restructure the contracts after dozens of workers and residents railed against the cost-saving move.

The lack of action means the new employment terms may be imposed without council approval, as allowed after 30 days under Detroit's consent agreement with the state.
