Douma Massacre: New Video Purports To Show Aftermath Of Killings

Bodies Wrapped In White Burial Shrouds Line The Streets

Bodies wrapped in white burial shrouds lining the street; the blood-stained corpse of a young girl; two cousins killed side by side. These scenes are part of a video obtained by CNN that appears to show the aftermath of an alleged massacre in Syria's Douma last month.

"He was executed, a civilian," a resident tells the camera crew, pointing at one of the bodies. "This is his cousin, shot because he tried to save him," he says about a second corpse.

According to residents, the civilians were killed by Syrian security forces on June 28, 2012. They say the armed forces searched several houses for weapons, executing many inside. The Syrian army had been shelling the Damascus suburb for days leading up to the attack, Reuters reports.

"Douma, the morning of June 29, 2012. This is the massacre committed against the people of Douma. God is our saviour. Two whole families are here (among the dead) ... God help us," a man described the scene in a different YouTube video purporting to show the aftermath of the killings.

Opposition groups estimate more than 17,000 people have been killed since the start of the Syrian conflict in March 2011. Last week, activists accused the Syrian army of massacring more than 200 people in a village near Hama.
