Erick Morillo, the Colombian-American DJ and house music producer known for outstanding mixes and high-octane club sets, has a new mix he wants you to hear.
He's been at it since the early '90s (back when house music was the anthem for seemingly illicit and never-ending parties full of music that no one knew all the words to), and he's retained a thirst for music steeped in funk and rhythm. That means there are few Afrojack-style bleepy breakdowns and little room for dubstep, but there is plenty of engaging music that translates seamlessly from your desk at work to a dark, foggy nightclub illuminated solely by the light cast off an ever-rotating disco ball.
We've heard "Subliminal 2012," his and SYMPHO NYMPHO (Morillo, Harry Romero and Jose Nunez)'s new compilation. Morillo made the mix to celebrate his Subliminal Sessions residency at Pacha in Ibiza (he's been a regular there for 12 years, a record). Boasting two hours of simple, elegant vibes, Morillo's subtle deckwork made us hopeful for electronic dance music's future. As more and more Americans wise up to "EDM," releases like Morillo's (and work from other masters like Art Department) are important reminders of the dance music that exists beyond the pop-house bangers blaring from today's radios and festival main stages.
Check out the video above for a preview exclusively available on HuffPost Entertainment and peruse other Morillo tracks in the gallery below. "Subliminal" will be released July 31. For what it's worth, the preview seems to concentrate on the more pop-sounding songs included in the mix.
Parting shot for those who aren't as familiar with house music: Erick Morillo is responsible for "I Like to Move It" -- the song that's been covered ad nauseum in the "Madagascar" movies. A full tracklist is available below the gallery.

Available on iTunes: bit.ly Follow us on Facebook: www.facebook.com The UK's pop princess Alexandra Burke, former X Factor winner, triumphantly presents a brand new single 'Elephant' featuring Erick Morillo. 'Elephant' is a cool slice of electro pop/dance, co-written and produced by dance guru Erick Morillo during his time in Ibiza late summer 2011, where he was resident at Pacha with his legendary 'Subliminal' nights. Lyrically the track talks of a relationship breaking down and not discussing the 'elephant standing in the room'. Alexandra's superlative vocals chant 'You wanna talk, you wanna talk about it?' over a pulsating beat and electric bassline, creating an undeniable knockdown dancefloor smash. The single comes with a 'Sympho Nympho' remix by Erick Morillo, Harry Romero and Jose Nunez.
Erick Morillo & Eddie Thoneick Feat. Skin - If This Ain't Love Available on iTunes - bit.ly Available on Beatport - bit.ly Available on Traxsource - bit.ly With legendary Skunk Anansie singer Skin taking control of the vocal line, and the undisputable touch of label boss Erick Morillo and regular partner in crime Eddie Thoneick on production duty, Subliminal's springtime big hitter 'If This Ain't Love' receives its official release -- rather appropriately -- on Valentine's Day. A heady combination of dance floor dynamite and raunchy, sex infused rock, the track continues the winning pairing of Morillo and Thoneick, whose previous collaborations 'Live Your Life' and 'Stronger' dominated global airwaves and taste-maker charts across 2010 and 2011. From the outset, 'If This Ain't Love' is in a class of its own. The unmistakable voice of Skin provides an almost ethereal, euphoric dynamic against Morillo and Thoneick's pumping house set-up. Soaring across thundering guitar riffs and uplifting piano chords, the singer's emotive performance lifts the track higher and higher as the beats caress the bass lines underneath her. The Sympho Nympho mix puts a more prominent dance edge on the track, with Erick, Harry Romero and Jose Nunez flexing their more-than-considerable musical muscles, perfecting the original with enough energy to rock the biggest rooms, stadiums and festivals on the planet. The video is set in a futuristic world, with dazzling visuals; ever-iconic Skin is bought ...
