Vegetarian-Friendly Ballparks Ranked By PETA

The Most Vegetarian-Friendly Ballparks

July 16 (Reuters) - The home of the Philadelphia Phillies, where hungry baseball fans in a town known for cheese steaks and hoagies can instead chow down on faux-chicken sandwiches, was ranked as America's most vegetarian friendly ballpark on Monday by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

Coming in second on PETA's annual list, behind Citizens Bank Park, was Safeco Field in Seattle, which features vegan specialties such as the IchiBan veggie dog and the veggie dog with vegan cream cheese, the organization said.

"Tasty vegetarian food is sweeping the nation, and that trend is especially apparent at the ballpark," PETA Associate Director Chris Holbein said in a written release.

Comerica Park in Detroit was third, followed by Oakland's O.co Coliseum. Health-conscious Southern California landed two ballparks on the 2012 chart, with Dodger Stadium in fifth place and Angel Stadium seventh.

"At PETA, the real 'Freeway Series' was deciding between the Halos' veggie nachos and the Dodgers' vegetarian sushi rolls," Holbein said.

"Whether you root for the Angels or the Dodgers, you can find delicious veggie sloppy Joes or veggie burgers right at your home team's concession stands," he said. (Reporting by Dan Whitcomb in Los Angeles; editing by Cynthia Johnston and Mohammad Zargham)
