Wilco At Wolf Trap: HuffPost DC Top 5 For July 17

Wilco At Wolf Trap: HuffPost DC Top 5 For July 17

TOP 5 FOR TUESDAY, JULY 17

1. Wilco At Wolf Trap
America's best jam band (they are) and live act (arguably) head to the D.C. region for their annual summer pilgrimage. Hopefully Tweedy and Co. stick to the more experimental and driven sound of "Art of Almost," the first track on their newest "The Whole Love." 8 p.m., all ages, $35 to $45, also July 18

2. "Agony And Ecstacy Of Steve Jobs" At Wooly Mammoth
Remember then "This American Life" made Mike Daisey sort-of, kind-of apologize for getting some important info about the Apple factory wrong? Let's see if that's been incorporated into the one man show. 8 p.m., all ages, $45 to $57.50, tonight is a special Pay What You Can performance, thru August 5

3. Edible Urban Garden Tour At Old City Green
Another Eat Local First event, this one will take participants throughout the city. Tours and talks of backyard, rooftop and other types of gardens. Learn what you can grow in your space and see how to participate in the 'grow your own' movement. 5 p.m., all ages, $20

4. City Dogs Rescue Happy Hour At The Queen Vic
We love dogs and are keen on cocktails. Whenever drinking helps the animals, we'll be there. 7 p.m., 21+, $25

5. "The Bungalows Of Rockaway" At National Building Museum
On blistering days like this a nice thought is to escape to the beach and get in the water. Since that's not a possibility for most, how about a documentary about a working class beach community in New York City? 6:30 p.m., all ages, $10 to $12

TOP 5 FOR THE NEXT 5 DAYS

Wednesday, July 18
"Shut Up and Play The Hits"
at AFI Silver Spring
Last April James Murphy decided to end LCD Soundsystem at the top of their game. They played one last show at Madison Square Garden. This documentary chronicles that show and just why Murphy decided to kill the band after only three records. Sadly, this one only plays for one night.

Thursday, July 19
"Anchorman"
at Capitol Skyline Hotel
Enjoy a poolside, or in the pool, cocktail while watching the comedy classic. Insert your favorite quote from the movie. Here. And stay classy.

Friday, July 20
Chain and The Gang, Heavy Breathing, Cornel West Theory, Shitstains
at St. Stephens
This show is a good example of why church and basement shows are needed. Four bands that have little in common share a bill to raise money for The Housing For All Campaign. More organizations like Positive Force should produce events.

Saturday, July 21
Summer Picnic Spectacular
at Union Market
Another Saturday, another outdoor food and entertainment event. This one takes place in NE. Over forty local food vendors will have their delicious delights for sale, entertainment will include soul music being spun and giant slides, and, maybe most importantly, a misting tent will help cool everyone.

Sunday, July 22
The Karma Cabaret
at Red Palace
The Tender Henries, The Torches and Milkmachine will play at this benefit for a yoga mat donation program. An interesting idea, the group provides yoga mats to low-income senior centers, homeless shelters, low-income schools, public libraries, detention centers, prisons, community health centers and veteran’s hospitals throughout the country.
