Bronx Fire Near Yankee Stadium Injures 31 FDNY Firefighters; Red Cross Aiding Families (VIDEO)

WATCH: 31 Firefighters Injured In Massive Fire

A massive, 6-alarm fire scorched a building near Yankee Stadium early Wednesday morning, injuring 31 firefighters and three residents.

The Daily News reports the fire started in the attic of the building at 975 Walton Avenue shortly after midnight.

Firefighter officials say the rubbery substance of a new roof recently installed in the building helped spread the fire.

The building consists of 180 apartments with about 600 residents, many of whom have registered with the Red Cross for assistance.

Roughly 50 fire companies with more than 220 firefighters worked overnight to put out the fire for about three and half hours.

An FDNY spokesman said everyone in the building has been accounted for. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
