'Deadliest Catch': Near Doom With 50 Tons Of Excess Water

Sig Hansen had his hands full -- and his boat full -- on "Deadliest Catch" (Tue., 9 p.m. ET on Discovery). The crew found themselves in a frightening situation in turbulent water when they just happened to take a look in their stability tank.

To ensure the stability of the ship, the tank is supposed to be empty, but theirs was completely full. As in, the Northwestern was carrying 50 tons of excess water. Without that empty tank to stabilize them, it would take but one wave to capsize and sink the ship.

A faulty alarm failed to alert the crew the tank was filling up, and they had a few worrisome minutes when they water wasn't draining from the tank as it should have. But in the end, they got their stability and security back.

The crews face new dangers every week on "Deadliest Catch," Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on Discovery.
