Like every year, the 2012 Emmy nominations were filled with their fair share of snubs and surprises.

"Parks and Recreation," including Nick Offerman, was closed out of the Comedy category with the exception of Amy Poehler for Lead Actress.

On the drama front, "Downton Abbey" shook up the race with major acting nominations in four categories, most notably Joanne Froggatt for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Froggatt will go head-to-head with the Dowager Countess herself, Maggie Smith, in the category.

Another pleasant surprise: Max Greenfield for Supporting Actor in a Comedy series on the Fox hit "New Girl." Schmidt will take on the men of "Modern Family" and another surprise nominee, "Saturday Night Live" cast member Bill Hader.

Meanwhile, Martha Plimpton was snubbed in the Lead Actress in a Comedy category, an award she was nominated for in 2011, but picked up a nomination for her guest work on CBS's "The Good Wife." Jason Ritter also picked up a surprising guest acting nomination for his work on NBC's "Parenthood."
