We now shift our attention from what we thought was the city's most scandalous pool this summer, to the raucous partying over at the rooftop pool of the Gansevoort Park Avenue Hotel located in Midtown.
According to The New York Post, the hotel's Summer Series shindigs, rife with boozing and a cacophony of booming techno music, is causing such an uproar with neighbors that the city could maybe step in to probe the parties. (Maybe. Although The Post headline reads "City launches probe...," all Department of Buildings spokesman Ryan Fitz-Gibbon would confirm is that an inspector might visit the pool this Sunday. )
The pool parties take place on Sundays from 3:30PM to 8:30PM, hours that neighbors say make it impossible for downtime on lazy Sunday afternoons. One 24-year old told The Post:
I try to not be home on Sundays. The last thing you want are a bunch of crazy people with loud techno music until 8 or 9 p.m.,” said frustrated local Greg Housset, 24, looking down from his apartment Sunday at the mob of hard-partying revelers packed like sardines on the hotel’s pool deck as turntable star DJ Chuckie spun booming dance tunes.
In addition to the loud partying, the pool's 54 person maximum occupancy is allegedly ignored almost routinely with crowds climbing to the hundreds on Sundays.
Which begs the question, which would you prefer? Pepper-spraying, cop punching McCarren Park Pool or obnoxious subwoofer parties at the Gansevoort? Both have been noted for their fair share of mayhem this season. And similarly to McCarren Park, which recently shut down due to poop in the pool, the waters at the Gansevoort have allegedly been spoiled by their own fecal matters in the past.
Judging by recent studies showing city pools are so clean "they nearly meet drinking-water standards" (and plus they're free to enter), compared to Gansevoort's ridiculous $700 a night room charges and the hotel's inclusion ranking it one of the worst places for NYC nightlife, we're going to go with McCarren Park Pool.
