How Jeff Daniels Convinced Aaron Sorkin He Could Play Angry

While Jeff Daniels still couldn't say with any certainty anything about the possibility of that "Dumb and Dumber" sequel ever seeing the light of day on "Late Night" (Weeknights, 12:37 a.m .ET on NBC), he was able to say that this upcoming week would be a pivotal one in determining if the project has a future.

But he was able to be much more specific when talking about his new HBO hit series "The Newsroom." In it Daniels plays angry and frustrated newsman Will McAvoy, which made him a tough sell for creator Aaron Sorkin.

Sorkin just wasn't sure Daniels could play angry. Daniels said he tried yelling at Sorkin and being rude to their servers, but nothing was working.

"I took Aaron’s head and I slammed it down into the table and it bounced back up," Daniels said. Apparently that knocked some sense into Sorkin and he had no further concerns believing that Daniels could pull off the role.

Jeff Daniels can be seen on "The Newsroom" Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on HBO, while Jimmy Fallon can be seen laughing on "Late Night" weeknights at 12:37 a.m. ET on NBC.
