Sweet, sweltering summer.

While it's true these past months have been memorable for record-setting temperatures, 2012 has also been a great year for Detroit music fans.

That Motown spirit will be alive and well on July 26 at New Center Park, where you'll find us partnering with the good folks at Model D for a Speaker Series focusing on the local music scene. Model D Managing Editor Walter Wasacz, who moonlights as a DJ and writer of all things sonic, will moderate the event.

Adding their voices to the mix are Jessica Care Moore of Black Women Rock; Beehive Recording Co. founder Steve Nawara; music industry attorney Howard Hertz; and composer/musician Joel Peterson.

This isn't just a panel discussion -- it's also a night out on the town. Stick around New Center Park after the series wraps up for a live performance from Will Sessions, part of the weekly "Thursday Alfresco Jazz & Blues” series presented by Comerica Bank.

Because the only thing more satisfying than talking about Detroit's vibrant, thriving music scene ... is experiencing it first-hand.

Stay tuned for more details. To register in advance, click here, and get amped up for a fun night of conversation and music by listening to our Spotify playlist "Kick out the Jams," full of gems from Detroit greats.

This Speaker Series is brought to you by Model D, MSHDA and HuffPost Detroit.
