A Miami-Dade kindergarten teacher was caught misbehaving -- big time.

Reina Herrera, 32, was arrested when witnesses saw a woman wearing dark clothing and gloves trying to break into a Miami home at 3520 SW 59th Ave. on Tuesday, according to her arrest affidavit.

When police arrived, the officer saw her climbing down a freezer beneath a bedroom window, carrying a bag, and then trying to hide. When she was arrested, Herrera admitted to the officer that this wasn’t her first burglary stint at the house.

She said she stole $3,500 in cash on May 10, and she returned to the home on May 17 and took $1,000 in cash, an engagement ring worth $1,000 and a pearl necklace worth $500.

While searching through her car, police found three bags of what they believe is heroin, along with a needle, spoon, tourniquet, and stolen checks worth $586.09.

Miami-Dade Public schools is opening an investigation into the kindergarten teacher, who has worked at Earlington Heights Elementary for seven years, according to the Miami Herald.

Herrera faces a number of charges: burglary of an unoccupied building, grand theft, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, criminal mischief, possession of burglary tools, and dealing in stolen property.

According to the Miami New Times, Herrera was arrested in 2010 for burglary as well, but she received court-supervised treatment instead of prosecution.

The lifelong Miami-Dade resident and mother of one was appointed a public defender. She is at the Women’s Detention Center on a $23,000 bail, according to NBC 6.
