Spice Girls At London Olympics: British Girl Band To Perform At Olympics Closing Ceremony

Is London Spicing Up The Olympics?

The Spice Girls (Women?) are back! But only for one night. The girl-powered pop group are expected to perform at the 2012 London Olympics closing ceremony, reports The Hollywood Reporter. Whether or not they will don their iconic platform shoes and "little Gucci dresses" is still unknown.

All five original members -- Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice), Melanie Brown (Scary Spice) and Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) -- will join other pop stars such as George Michael, The Who, Take That and Jessie J, for the closing show on Aug. 12.

In June, the Spice Girls reunited for the first time since 2008 for the launch of their musical, "Viva Forever." They posed for pictures at the St. Pancras Renaissance London Hotel, which was famously the same setting for the group's debut music video "Wannabe." (If you didn't feel old enough already, "Wannabe" was released 16 years ago, and the Spice Girls split over a decade ago.)

At the helm of "Viva Forever" is the ab fab Jennifer Saunders, who created and starred in the popular British comedy series, "Absolutely Fabulous," and producer Judy Craymer, who also produced the ABBA musical "Mamma Mia!"

"Viva Forever" will follow a talent competition and how a "Wannabe" star named Viva and her family are affected by the process. Viva originally applies for the talent contest with a group, but is faced with a decision whether to go through to the next round solo or not at all. Remember Viva, "friendship never ends."

All five Spice Girls have been involved in creating the new musical, which will open at the Piccadilly Theatre in London on Nov. 27.
