Juan Bello Charged In Hit And Run That Killed Nikkii Bostic-Jones, Corrections Officer (VIDEO)

A West Side man has been charged in connection with the hit and run that killed a Cook County correctional officer Wednesday.

Juan Bello, 57, of the 2900 block of West 25th Street, has been charged with reckless homicide, leaving the scene of an accident involving a death, failing to yield to a pedestrian, driving on a revoked license and driving too fast for conditions, CBS Chicago reports.

Nikkii Bostic-Jones, 38, of Plainfield, Ill., was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in the 2900 block of South California just before 11 p.m. Wednesday, ABC Chicago reports.

The driver of the vehicle -- a full size, navy blue van -- that killed Bostic-Jones took off after the crash, which sent the officer flying into another lane of traffic, where she was hit by a sheriff's vehicle, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Bostic-Jones was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital after the crash but died there, according to ABC.

Police searched databases using information about the make, model and partial license plate of the vehicle at the scene, which led them to Bello, who owns a similar vehicle and lives near the jail, NBC Chicago reports.

State records showed that Bello's driver's license was revoked after his second DUI arrest in 2010, according to the Chicago Tribune.

James Jones, the victim's spouse, told NBC Chicago his wife was "a sweet person and she was supermom" who will be missed. Bostic-Jones is also survived by a seven-year-old daughter named Nikia.

A vigil was held Thursday evening at the jail, where Bostic-Jones worked for the last 12 years.
