Aurora Victims: Kaylan, 13, Tried To Save 6-Year-Old Veronica Moser-Sullivan (VIDEO)

13-Year-Old Hero Tries To Save Colorado Shooting Youngest Victim

Kaylan, a 13-year-old girl who was eager to see "The Dark Knight Rises" on opening night at the Aurora, Colo., Century 16 theater, did not know that the fateful midnight showing would change her life.

The teenage girl, whose last name has been withheld, attempted to save 6-year-old Veronica Moser-Sullivan, who was shot in the theater masacre, according to NBC News.

"She was trying everything she possibly could to save another human being," Kaylan's mother, Heather, told CBS News.

Kaylan also spoke with the station, expressing the emotional difficulty she has faced in the wake of the tragedy.

"I'm still in shock," Kaylan told CBS News during an interview with John Blackstone. "I don't think that it's hit me yet what I have been through."

Kaylan was at the movie with four others, including Veronica and her mother Ashley.

Ashley, who is pregnant with her second child, was shot three times in the neck and abdomen, the New York Daily News reported. She was rushed to the hospital and both she and her unborn baby survived.

Despite Kaylan's attempts at CPR, the 6-year-old girl died. She was one of 12 people killed in the shooting.

Ashley found out on Saturday night while in the hospital that her daughter had died, according to MSNBC.

Kaylan was not the only teen who attempted to help during the Colorado shooting.

Morgan Jones, an 18-year-old from Denver, Colo., compiled real-time coverage of the shooting from the Aurora Police and Fire Live Feed, which he then posted on Reddit. Jones was up late playing videogames when he heard the news and stayed up through the night to provide details of the massacre to readers.
