Mount Pleasant Academy, Utah School, Seeks To Help Teens Kick Porn Addiction (PHOTOS)

While some schools specialize in art, math, or science, Mount Pleasant Academy, a new school based in central Utah, has a different focus altogether: helping teens kick their addiction to porn, the Daily reports.

“It’s killing us," said Manuel Zizumbo, the school's program director, according to the Daily. "When a young man or woman gets ahold of this stuff and they start chasing this dopamine high, they stop going to school, their relationships are sabotaged, their intimacy levels drop -- everything just becomes skewed.”

Dopamine is the neurotransmitter the helps regulate the brain's "reward and pleasure centers," according to Psychology Today,

The report states the school has a strict activity schedule, with days usually beginning at 6 a.m. The curriculum is based based on the idea that outdoor exercise coupled with academic learning is the best way to help ween students off the habit -- encouraging them to camp, ride horses, and play sports when they're not in therapy or class.

In direct contrast, Männer.ch, a Swiss organization, is lobbying for children in the country to be shown pornography during sexual education classes.

Markus Theunert, the group's 39-year-old leader, told newspaper NZZ am Sonntag (New Zurich Times/News on Sunday) that the material would be educational and is nothing students haven't seen before.

“Today, an overwhelming majority of children have already seen pornographic movies over the Internet or on smartphones,” Theunert told NZZ, according to The Local.
