Homeless Shelter Food Poisoning Outbreak: Over 50 Ill From Donated Turkey

On Sunday, the Denver Rescue Mission shelter received a donated turkey dinner for 300 homeless people. Unfortunately, the dinner caused over 50 people to contract food poisoning, resulting in people vomiting in the street.

Brad Meuli, President & CEO of the Denver Rescue Mission shelter, said that nothing like this has ever happened at the shelter before and he is working with the health department to investigate the cause.

The dinner was visually inspected before it was served, reports ABC News. It was the largest food poisoning outbreak in a homeless shelter in 10 years.

At least 40 people were taken to the hospital. All of those treated have made full recoveries.
