'The Jeffersons': TV Land Airing Marathon To Honor Sherman Hemsley

TV Land Honoring Sherman Hemsley

To honor the late Sherman Hemsley, TV Land has scheduled a special "The Jeffersons" marathon.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Sherman Hemsley,” Larry W. Jones, TV Land president, said in a statement. “Sherman was part of the TV Land family and his many contributions to television will be treasured. He will be sorely missed.”

On Sat., July 28, TV Land will air a four-hour marathon beginning at 12 p.m. ET featuring some of Hemsley's most memorable episodes.

Hemsley, who originated the George Jefferson character on "All In The Family," passed away on Tues., July 24 at the age of 74. "The Jeffersons" ran for 11 seasons from 1975-1985 and has been heralded as one of TV's most ground-breaking shows for the way it handled race.
