YO! Sushi Opens 1st U.S. Outpost At Union Station (PHOTOS)

WASHINGTON -- Many things move around Union Station including trains, commuters and shoppers. Now, sushi is on the move, too.

The British chain YO! Sushi opened up its first U.S. outpost in Union Station's West Hall on Wednesday, adjacent to Potbelly, Chipotle and Chop't. YO!'s brand is all about fresh, fast and fun.

The food, mostly sushi but enough vegetarian options to make it friendly for all palates, is prepared in the middle of the restaurant, visible to diners.

As dishes are finished, they're placed on a conveyor belt that loops around the space. You don't have to worry about anything sitting for too long. Seated and standing patrons pick the bowls they desire.

The color-coded rims determine the price. Patrons can be in and out within five minutes or sit in one of the four booths for an hour. The length of lunch time is dependent on you alone.

The space is ideal for the traveler that wants a quick bite and enjoys music that could score car commercials aimed at the 25-45 year old set. Bright, inviting lighting structures give the place a futuristic for the early 2000s vibe. The Asahi beer and Hakushika Ginjou Nama cold sake aren't too shabby.

While the concept of sushi on a conveyor belt in D.C. isn't new -- there's Sushi Go Round & Tapas in Chinatown -- the location of YO! Sushi may be its best feature.

Located in an area of Union Station that has good Red Line access, it's quick and easy for both locals headed home and Amtrak, MARC or VRE passengers with time to kill.

YO! Sushi will be open seven days a week for lunch and dinner. Its menu, schedule and online ordering can be found on their site.
