Mobile Hotel Booking Goes Olympic With New HotelTonight Data (INFOGRAPHIC)

INFOGRAPHIC: The Mobile Hotel Booking Olympics

It's no surprise that travel companies are looking for Olympics tie-ins as the kick-off to the London games looms, but newly released data from smartphone app HotelTonight stands out because it illuminates the often opaque world of mobile hotel booking.

Perhaps surprisingly, the data shows that Android users are the more spontaneous last-minute bookers. They were over 32% more likely than iOS users to book a hotel for the same night after 9 p.m. Apple devotees were more likely to book early in the day.

The company's data also shows that iOS users spend an average of 15% more per stay, though the company takes pains to point out that "HotelTonight always shows the same pricing and hotels to both platforms," in a dig at Orbitz, which made headlines recently for showing Mac and PC users different hotel prices.

Check out the infographic below to witness what HotelTonight is calling the Booking Olympics between iOS and Android.
