Tell Us: The Worst Travel Advice You've Ever Received

The Worst Travel Advice Ever

"Egypt isn't going anywhere." Those were the famous words that a friend spoke to me when I had to cancel plans to visit Cairo (the backdrop of the civilization that gave me the travel bug when I was a little girl) to attend a mutual friend's wedding. Of course I had to go to the wedding; I never had a choice. But I did feel I had earned the right to simmer over the change of plans and this joke, this torment from someone who had rarely left her tri-state area, well, it was the worst travel advice that I had ever received.

"Don't forget to pack for all elements!" "Stay in an all-inclusive resort!" "You just can't travel with kids."

We've all been subjected to the unsolicited whims of fellow vacationers who, for all purposes, might be attempting to be helpful but just aren't. Some lean too far to the beaten path, others think your perfect sojourn just can't be accomplished. But travel is about experimentation and adventure, and luckily, advice is subjective. In other words, you can collect tips, but you don't have to use them.

So, tell us: What's the absolute worst advice anyone has ever given you for your travels? Comment below and see if you can help anyone else avoid the bad travel karma.
