John Larimer, Illinois Victim Of Colorado Shooting, Remembered In Friday Visitation (VIDEO)

Body Of Chicago-Area Victim Of Colorado Shooting Returned Home

The body of a 27-year-old Chicago-area U.S. Navy sailor who was one of the 12 people killed during the Colorado theater shooting was returned to Illinois Thursday.

John T. Larimer, of Crystal Lake, Ill., was a Petty Officer 3rd Class and had been assigned to Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora, Colo. in October 2011, where he worked as a cryptologic technician.

Larimer's body was returned to his hometown via a procession that began at O'Hare International Airport and ended with a brief ceremony at the Davenport Family Funeral Home, Patch reports.

Larimer shielded Julia Vojtsek of Algonquin, Ill., his girlfriend, from gunfire during the shooting. Vojtsek told the Chicago Tribune that she credited Larimer with saving her life by doing so.

A public visitation is planned for Larimer from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, followed by a private funeral and burial, according to the Daily Herald.

Larimer was a 2003 graduate of Crystal Lake South High School and trained at the Great Lakes Naval Academy. He was the youngest of five siblings.
