Chris Brown Denies Making Homophobic Slur About Frank Ocean On Twitter

Chris Brown is on the defense after allegedly making a statement on fellow R&B star Frank Ocean's coming out which some have deemed homophobic.

Earlier this morning, the singer tweeted:

The tweet was likely a response to controversy surrounding an earlier statement made by Brown. When asked by paparazzi for his opinion of Ocean as he was leaving a nightclub in France, Chris Brown replied, "Man, no homo," according to a report via The Advocate.

Not surprisingly, that reported statement sparked a firestorm of criticism against Brown, who is no stranger to making alleged homophobic slurs, on a variety of social media outlets.

Whether or not Brown intended to take a homophobic swipe at his fellow chart-topper is questionable, however; as a number of publications have noted, the phrase "no, homo" is frequently used in the hip-hop world to reject any notion of something that could be deemed homosexual in nature.

In a second tweet, Brown seemed to take aim at his critics:

Ocean, who has also written songs for Justin Bieber, John Legend and Beyoncé in addition to his own solo success, spoke frankly about falling in love with an unidentified man as a teenager on his blog earlier this month. "We spent that summer, and the summer after, together," he wrote in part. "Everyday almost… Sleep I would often share with him. By the time I realized I was in love, it was malignant. It was hopeless. There was no escaping."

It isn't the first time Brown has been caught in a war of words with Ocean. Not only have the two had heated Twitter exchanges, but Brown even allegedly sent relatives to chase Ocean's car in June 2011, the Logo blog NewNowNext reported.

Ocean's latest album, "Channel Orange," has received positive reviews since its release earlier this month.
